In a couple weeks i will be starting my college project which means a £600,000+ workshop and composites facilities, so im looking for interesting stuff to make with metal or composites.

thinking that some fiberglass MT 122 horns or similar would be a nice project, any thoughts/ideas welcome (honestly anything metal, fiberglass or carbon that would be cool to make.)

Edit: How about some billet 6.5" mid tops

I see that now they can 3d print green sand casting molds. solid aluminum 12inch porn horn would be cool. Aluminuim is everywere I am casting at the moment. Free material recycled.

I was wondering about the sound of an aluminium horn flair, if Tony Andrews's thoughts are true it would sound like a tin can.

you may be rite on the tin can thing. I just think that maybe it needs to be 5mm above in thickness. Good luck casting those babies. cost as much as your workshop. nearly.
Casting is great fun. I am onto bronze now. Try it even if it has nothing to do with speakers.

Thin aluminum WILL sound like a tin can. Just find something made from thin alumninium and give it a tap with your knuckles. It will not be dull and damped as a speaker box should be.

Yup,needs to be at least 5mm minimum thickness,10mm would be preferable....going to weigh like an elephant by the time you have added the driver and a cabinet....do you actually want to be able to move it?

Just try lifting the old cast 2inch exit horns from the 1970's,they were heavy enough, let along a 12inch.
Be seeing you.

I guess the tony andrews mindset was right, "if its made of aluminium, guess what its going to sound like a tin can".

So if cones are made from paper, do they sound like a tree?
