Hi!
I have ordered a 2017 Miata and plan to use it as a trackday car. Weight will be reduced as much as possible, which means taking out everything that isn't necessary, including AC. But the stereo IS necessary and I would also like some bass while keeping it as light as possible.

I noticed that the trunk is very small: Cargo Capacity is listed as 130L and real volume is probably a little more, so about 140L. This sounded small enough that it might be possible to use the whole trunk as an enclosure, provided that light enough drivers could be found.

I have found two drivers that could possible work so far:

Eminence Kappalite 3015LF-4 High Power Neo 15" Subwoofer 4 Ohm

Eighteensound 15ND930 4 Ohm

https://www.thomann.de/se/eighteensound_15nd930_4_ohm.htm?ref=search_rslt_265903_265903_0

They are both about 4kg in weight.
So far I'm figuring maybe two 6" ports about 4.5" in length and a lightweight class-D amp that is rated about 1000W RMS or so into 4 Ohm.

This one is about 3kg:

So this would mean pretty good bass for around 7kg weight gain. Proposed speaker position is a in the trunk firing up through a "grille" cut in the metal separatating the passenger compartment from the trunk. I think it might be bad to cut a large hole in the middle of the car for structural reasons, so i might add also add a grille plate and bolt and glue the speaker

You guys all know a lot more than me about speaker design. I do have some experience for previous car stereo builds and building this:

I also have a lot of tools and a calibrated professional measurement microphone to help me tune the installation.

Any advise on driver selection, ports, amp selection, design or tuning is appreciated!

I enclose a crude sketch of my idea for mounting and a picture of a stripped ND to show what it really looks like. The CD player in the middle will of course be removed!
