For a Kappa 15", doesn't look like too ridiculous a prediction.

I would be tempted to high pass it, and make a "kick section" with a true sub below. But in band, it will make some noise.

Have some faith in your abilities - at least you a have actually managed to make 4 - remember to enjoy them!

Doller, what are the crossover slopes you use (type and order)?

If my sims are in the right ballpark, that would be the peak at 200 hz. If you consider the slope of the response curve between 40 and 100 Hz, the peak is about 8 dB. Keep in mind that if your crossover frequency is 150 hz, 200 hz is only 1/3 octave away. away. Assuming for example a 4th order (24 dB/octave) slope, the output would have a little hump between 150 and 200 hz, and start to drop only after 200 hz, taking a sudden drop towards 300 hz because of the subsequent trough at 300 hz. your acoustic crossover would actually be much higher, resulting in excess overlap with your mid, resulting in honky sound around 200 -300 hz, which will make inherently honky violins even more so......

Long post, conclusion: Experiment with 3-8 dB of parametric eq cut, maybe start with a q of 2. That might clean up the violin sound.

Good Luck!

yes, the best way is to measure and verify if there is a peak. Measure just the kappa 15 section without any filter & eq  to get raw response. If you find a peak such as in my simulation, try to flatten it with eq.

After that repeat your alignment & crossover procedure.

by the way, if you like experimenting, I recommend Harsch crossover alignments, I have had very good results recently with the mirrored topology proposed by xrk:

Hello doller,

In fact you got a kind of TQWP (sort of transsmision line speaker where duct is largest volume/area and tappers to smaller area at port exit). Roughly your observation on response agrees with that.

Signature is important. So I always write something in this dedicated field.

If you did the measurements with more than one cab playing then you would expect nothing above 6 or 8kHz due to cancellations. This is why point source doesn't really work.

If you only measured one cab you have big problems.
