Almost there...how things take time....sooo much time on speakerplans lately. trying to figure out whether too go with 18 or 15" kicks. Have decided on Invaders & MT121's but cant decide between ES18, USB singles TSE215 (BPH238) singles. Going to be 2 of each box per side (ie 2 subs, 2 kicks...etc).

But just cant make my mind up for the kick. Mykey says has to be 15's for kick, ASS R2U has 15" kick section...big players. Then you read how es18, usb kick hard, sound awesome etc. And all the void stuff is 18 so...? 1st priority for the combo is harder dance music (outside), but will be getting all sorts of pre recorded so need some balance (why im finding it hard to let go of the es18 plan).

I've never heard any of the designs, let alone any properly set up dance systems so I really value your feedback. This is it, after this im going with a combination and not looking back. Thanks again everyone for sharing, past and present!

My personal opinion is 15" for kick bins, 18" or bigger for subs.

What kick bins have you looked at other than the ones you have mentioned?

Considering you location, i would look at the easiest to get/cheapest/best driver and cab option available to you, unless you have some magical way of getting any driver you like for good money down under!

Have you looked at the MKB-230 or the MKH-230? 12" loaded

Or this turbo design? 18" loaded

another point is...

Your looking at 18" loaded cabs, generally they are bigger cabs so cost mroe money and also 18" drivers are more expensive than 15" or 12". Of course this depends on which drivers your looking at but its worth remembering.

You could ask mykey to send you over some of his 2Q or 2QH kick bins if you have tyhe money for that kind of thing?

Davey T - Booty Bass?

Or this dual 15" similar to hd215 and tse215

Nice one Tom, had a feeling you'd post here!

Man I swear ive looked at every kick bin that's ever been made! It's been epic, have read your BPH238 thread about 4 zillion times. BPH238 singles are right up there and obviously sound sweet, only thing putting me off is how they stack between invaders and mt121's, flat they're too wide for invaders, standing up to narrow for mt121Wacko. could go 3 of them on their ends but extra $ and possibly too much kick for 2 invaders.

Apparently its hard to fit drivers into the 18" Turbo design. All the double 12 designs will end up being to expensive for drivers (needing 4 drivers per side), wont stack neatly with rest and probly too much kick. I'd say they'll be ultra loud.

Getting 18's here is no prob through Thomann.

So in the end its come down to ES18, trusty old HD15 or BPH238 singles. the general feeling is people prefer the ES18 sound over the HD15 even though it's probably punchier. Dunno just think overall the ES18 would balance nicer even though id love the punchiness of the HD. So then it comes down to ES18 vs BPH238 single. And well.....any thoughts?

Yeah Mykey's 2Q, would love to hear that! but would end up being too expensive to get them I think.

That grey -HAT- double 15 bin looks almost identical to TDA's version of HD15 which Tom Schute didn't rate.

Dunno about Davey T's booty bass, never really considered it.

Fair enough sounds like you have done some homework!

How wide are you going to build your invaders as i understand you can make them to slightly different widths? you could go for the standard invader width then make your es18 10mm wider to fit perfectly on top, or go for the 636mm wide invader and build the electrical es18 to fit perfectly on top? what do you think?

To be honest i don't rate the HD15 that well, most of the HD cabs i have heard just seem to blurt out kick bass and it doesn't please my ears. But to be fair i have heard one set of HD15s (a forum member i might add) that was very good, im not sure what he was doing but hey i liked them!

By the sounds of things the ES18 is your best bet

Yeah, thanks for the work you did with the turbo box, was a fun read. es18 and invaders will be 636 types. Can then put es18 mouths together which will look cool and might sound bit better.

Thanks for your input mate, helped me clear my head on this one! Now, time to get this beast built!

In my experiences (lol not actually so many) but i really wanted dedicated kick bins.... TBH you get more than enough punch if you can run the invaders up to 120 hz or so. Dedicated kick bins dont really go low enough to sound good in my opinion and i'd rather just have a bigger stack of invaders that i could use! just my opinion :)

Btw I have 4 turbo tse215 (well a very very similar design) and 3 cubo subs (currently looking at designs to replace the cubo's and just keep 2 of the turbo's - if anyone has any suggestions!)

Good luck hope you find a good solution :) x

The MT121 does not go down to 120hz so you would have to find some better tops for that method.

Run the invaders up to 90hz then let the kick bins take over up to 180 or more? meets the MT121 perfectly.
