what do I (or can it no be done) need to fit to turn a 16 ohm hf driver into a 8 ohm hf driver (so amp see's it as 8 ohms)
now I know the easy solution is to buy an 8 ohm one ,but love the sound from these old jap ones so really want to keep them

you could rewind it so the 16ohm winding is an 8ohm one.

Presumably this is so that your crossover sees the correct loading? In which case simply fit a 16 ohm resistor of a similar power rating to the tweeter in parallel with the tweeter and then the crossover will see 8 ohms.

If you have the headroom then a 16 Ohm tweeter will just be harder to drive than an 8Ohm so no problems beside that. As someone else above said a modification of the Xover network will achieve better power matching also. |
