hey guys

have read through a lot of this section and other projects etc !

I want to start my first project and I have two 15" drivers I took out a pair of scoops.

want to build a 2x15" Gsub as long term I want to build two 2x18" for live music work

The questions I am asking is

1. does anyone have dimensions for a 2x15" Gsub (will this change a lot depending on the drivers I have?)

2. has anyone build one before and have any advice/pictures etc

Oh and I have someone who is going to do all the cutting etc for me as a favor when I get him some plans !

thanks

The best thing for you to do is learn how to do simulations using WinISD (or similar).  Stick the parameters for your drivers in and find a combination of volume and tuning that will work.  This will partly depend on what compromises you want to make.

In general, if you want to go lower, you need a larger box.  You can go low with a smaller box but you loose efficiency.  I find that generally you're better of sacrificing a few Hz of low extension and benefiting from higher efficiency, often a smaller box and if you're lucky a tighter, punchier sound (which is often the reason for wanting twin 15" rather than 18").

Most 15" drivers suitable for reflex loading will be happy in a box around 100L per driver and tuned to 40-45Hz.

Once you've got a simulation you're happy with you can then transfer that to a cabinet design.  If you like the GSub style, stick with that.  First set some constraints, the size of the baffle is generally a good place to start.  From that you can calculate how deep the box needs to be in order to get the volume.  Don't forget to include the port volume!  You design the port in WinISD.

I found a design I like on sonotone.in

http://www.sonotone.in/images/PDF%20File/cabinet_drawings/Dual%2015%20inch%20Subwoofer%20C15-600EL%20x%202.pdf

gonna have a look at WinISD and play around with measurements

thanks for the advice
