A breaker is used to protect equipment so you would use a breaker rated below the rating of cables/connectors in this case

But they're nOt designed to be used where you intend to cross phases and they will be your 'tester'. Especially if you're taking your rig to venues where you have no knowledge of the upstream system.
Give Schneider, Hager, ABB a call and ask them if their kit is ok for this and they'll tell you nothing should be switched on without the correct testing procedure followed. Power off tests followed by the power on ones. And if you do this a few times, there's a possibility you will damage the breakers and one time they won't trip in time. Then it starts blowing things upstream - a venue would love their service head cutouts blowing on a Saturday night. Edited by dylan-penguinmedia - 05 March 2012 at 4:55pm |

Consider this carefully..... You have your panel of alike 32A powercons (ins and outs) and pick up a 32A plug to powercon lead and plug it in to the mains. Now, someone else also picks up a 32A plug to powercon lead and plugs it in - the pins on this 32A plug are now LIVE! If this person contacts the active and neutral pins without forming a path to earth, then the RCD will not trip and they will be fried! |

I can't believe I had to read almost 3 full pages of complete crap before someone (YOU!) pointed out the obvious. IF YOU DON'T ***KNOW*** IT, DON'T SAY IT!! It's pretty damn obvious that a connector which is described as an OUTlet should not be used as an INlet (or vice-versa)... Anyone who even questions this kind of logic seriously shouldn't be allowed to touch anything carrying more than 80v. If I was in a venue and found anyone, even in another room (completely unrelated to where I was working), with a "distro" with that kind of incorrect design I would physically remove it from the venue (by force) and destroy it in the street.

Do we actually know of any SP member (or third party) to have died from messing about with electrics?
