I found that one of the relays had been destroyed and the 5 volt rail was shorted somehow inside. Removed the relay and the amp jumped back to life but the db meter dosnt work but I think ths because the micro on the fron panel is dead. It gets good signals for left and right to the ADC channels but the micro dosnt drive the leds. Anyway on the scope the amp runs identical right upto clip both sides and the clip lights still work so its looking like its lived to fight another day. I may even program a new microcontroller to do the output metering myself when I get some time. Anyway now im on to working on a macrotech 1200 thats got a shorted bank of transistors.

Ive just checked the voltage going to the pic16c71 micro and im only getting 1.3 volts and the pic16c71 needs 2.5 to 6 volts to run so im now trying to track down its regulator.

    Author: kanks
Subject: 66389
Posted: 26 April 2012 at 6:03pm

Hi ive got a Matrix U2000 in the old grey style 3U case. Its pcb is very similar to the STR2000 with the markings "MATRIX M2000 ARH" Its been a great amp but one of the young lads that came doing a show with me pluged the speakon conector comming from the Matrix into the turbosound link that was being powered by a crown macrotech at the time. So the Crown went into protect but unfortunatly the Matrix seems to have died. The front led's dont seem to do anything anymore.

Im a very much used to dealing with broken amps and have built many valve amps my self from scratch. Mosfet amps ive worked on normally camo down to being a few output fet's or a few caps but this seems it has a microcontroller in the from pcb. Ive done my fair share of micro programming in my time and would like to have a schematic to aid in replicating its fucntions should the need arrise. Im off now to check the voltage and see If I can get any signs of life from the micro.

I know that what has happend to the amp is to most including me a very stupid thing but the kids have to make mistakes from witch to learn but if anyone has had this issue before any input is very much welcome.

Cheers in advance Kris
