i have one and i was using it last nite and i heard a pop and then it went off so was seeing if it was a common fault or just my luck

They can suffer from "old age" as any smpsu can, they are pretty reliable though. Actual popping noises from it are not so common but any of Allen and Heaths service centres (me included) will make short work of repairing it.
