I've been working on a mini rig to run off 12v for beach parties ect. Going about it a bit differently to most i have seen as as i want it to be modular so its easy to take down steps by a few people.. Will also look more like a 'mini rig' than most people's one box solutions..

My plan is a

10" bandpass, Deathbox from the decware site playing 30-100hz
10" reflex (or possibly tms1 style bph) playing 100 - 500hz
2x 5" sealed playing 500 - 5k
nasty peizo horn on hf  (see how it goes)

I've picked up two 4 ohm jbl cs10's, a 200w @ 2 ohm 2 channel car amp and some Warfedale 4ohm 5" drivers all from ebay for about £50 the lot. I'm using 12mm ply to save weight.

Starting the build tomorrow, bp first, and will add pics as i'm going...

Been having a problem designing the 10" reflex bin... It's modeling very strange in winISD, probably because i don't have lots of the variables its asking for like the xmas, but is this just a really bad driver to use? The freq response says it'll go up to 800hz?

any advice/comments welcome!

from my expereance sack of any think lower than 50 hz unles you want to cary lots of batterys

hears my 12v rig haveing some 303 action

pizzo for the top
2 6" 30w in the mid
and then 10" baymer 400w if i can rember rightly
powerd from a 250w sony car amp (needs to be biger) through a pasive 3 way crosover
the key thing about the design is that the mid fits inside the bass encloser and the pizzo fits inside the mid a bit like russan dolls

Haha, acid in the countryside, good stuff..

I've not thought too much about the crossover yet, kinda depends if i go with the reflex or not. Would be nice to have the option of running it down to 30hz in the livingroom as well but thx for the tip

one of the key things about a 12v rig is moving it
because of what you are doing with it  it needs to be able to travle
i think rich_gales idear of the sack truck style of movement is spot on

yo there.  nice idea about modular.  maybe put a battery in each cabinet.  with regards to piezo use.  using a 10watt 8r resistor in parallel with the piezo will make it work better with whatever passive crossover you use.   the 1000+ ohms of the piezo meant it just didnt see any effect from my passive crossover.

http://www.speakerplans.com/forum/12volt-big-daddy-wheelie-system_topic26041.html

i built this and it is really easy to move around for 1 person.  even up bike friendly steps.  i wouldnt even think about trying to move this up steep steps on my own though.  the nice big handle and 45degree slant while pulling makes for easy transport.  used it all day today and think its time to build a mid/top box w/ seperate battery/amp.  other than that, its no sweat for an hours walk.

Cool, I saw Matt's 12v system with the martin audio on a trolly when i was in Brighton too but there are a few places i'd like to use it where wheels are not an option.. the beach to begin with.

Have you thought about fitting a handle on the front to make it easyer to carry by 2 people?

I'm gona fit recessed hooks in the bass cabs so they can ether be hooked onto a metal backpack frame or attached to a granny trolly.

My amp is still in the post so i really need to check out what the built in xover will do. If i'm lucky i'll get away with one passive xover at 120hz, then run the 5" from 500 up with just a resistor on the peizzo.

my beast isnt liftable-even by two people, but pulling around on its wheels is very easy.  the wheels are fine for grass, but dry sand may be a killer.

Should get all these 12v systems together at some point, maybe a festival somewhere over the summer.

Got a bit late for me to carry on working but the woods all cut for the bandpass now :) had to pay 28 quid for a sheet of 12mm ply tho Angry
