Hey Everyone,

I'm in the process of building a rig mostly for Dub and Roots events and was wondering what do most people use as outboard effect units to run mics, sirens, and mains. Would be cool to get analog vintage sound.

Tape delay, spring reverb and, possibly, a switched parametric EQ (one where you can freely set gain and width but then switch thru several fixed frequencies to get that Lee Scratch Perry sound on the effect returns)
You'll want to be tweaking the tape loop in the delay with your fingers and whacking the reverb with your palm to get the full "effect" from your effects Wink so get spare loops and a big chunk of foam to put the reverb on...

Nice. any specific units? I keep on hearing about the roland space echo. Does anyone have experience using it in a live setting?

Boss de200 is great especially on vocals
Boss rdd-10 or rdd-20 sound great on sirens
Boss Re-20 Space Echo guitar pedal is really really nice for echoing music.

If you want a proper space echo then you are going to need some serious money as good ones start around the 600 mark and go up and then you also need to become pretty good at servicing them and general looking after that a piece of kit of that age needs to stay working well.

The top Roots sounds I see at gigs, have pro 19" digital delay units, maybe even drum pads.

Many have Roland/Boss SP303/SP404 Sampler/playback pads, 16x channel studio mixers with 4x AUXs.

Last time I saw spring reverb being hit or dropped was 1991.. LOL

Are these the units where pressing hold button, causes increasing feedback to reverb, until released ?

How would you do this with digital delay unit without HOLD/Release, & studio mixer with AUX send/receive?

hmm. not sure on that one. maybe a delay with an 'infinite' setting for the feedback?

But im far from tecnically minded enough to actually make much sense... lol
