Just a thread re-post regarding fire-breathing Crests from an ex employee, since the original article was moved.

not wishing to pull the topic rudely off much more, the Crest link says they found the 8001 a reliable workhorse. Might as well just say that a faulty 8001 is just as capable of blowing holes out of the aluminium heatsink when it fails as the 9001 is.

You can tell I aren't a fan of super large amplifiers. The bigger they get, the harder they fall. In many senses of the word.

Let's use some logic here. Large amplifiers release large amount of smoke and that means more income for your repair shop. Big smile Wink

It's swings and roudabouts. A large blow up means more time down for the client, a larger chunk of the sound system out of action and a bigger risk that the amp may be beyond repair. The pub where I used to DJ had an amp rack the size of a fridge-freezer (citronic PPX's) so if an amp went down (none ever did) it would keep the show on the road.
The last Crest bruiser I fixed ran the entire bass section of a rock club. (8 x 18in cabs). That went BANG during a soundcheck for a ticketed gig and one had to be hired-in at very short notice.

I had the module of the channel that got damaged replaced with a new one I got from thomann and the amp is working just fine with no issues.
A happy story ending for this amp

The module came mounted on its heatsink for 150 euro plus shipping.

Clap

I have a piddly 4 x 18 2 x 15 +1" system. It has three amps, not two, not a four channel. Lose one, easy way out. And I have a spare, so double redundancy. Everything is under stressed, no clip lights ever. The rack is heavy, which would make it useless for some, even though its not much heavier than a scoop.

Great blog on the 9001 and as for the PPX rack, been there, best things ever built.
