And in that you have failed miserably.

You failed to provide any workable solution for someone that most likely would not have the skill or knowledge to design and build a preamp himself because if he had, he wouldn't be asking for help in the first place.

A FiiO works and really isn't that expensive, and as soon as you look those up, other and cheaper options will also surface as he then knows in which direction to start looking.

Im using a soundcraft compact4 mixer. small portable and happy on 12v dc.
second hand around £50 but worth it :-)

get a 351 dual bi-fet op-amp and use that, the xample circuits will pretty much do what you need, you will have to spoof a +6/0/-6V supply with a couple of resistors but a bit of vero board and an hour and you will be done...
