I heard these being used for a live performance at the Bose VIP room at the Motor Show last year and the mid-top was nice and clear throughout the room, as Bose advertise.
There are a few mobile djs who use them, but I'm not convinced that the bass produced can be sufficient for the type of stuff I do. The little bass modules are tiny! I'm prepared to be corrected though, as I have not used them myself nor heard them used for a proper gig. I can't seem to find any technical specs (other than the weight!) for the bass units on the website. The website points to the forum which also doesn't help (although did shed light on the whole L1 ownership thing - the owners really like their units to the point that when one guy commented that at a gig, he needed a bit more volume, he was practically hung up and publically flogged!)

L1 is clever & original, for weddings/background music/clear speech dispersion it works spot on
However it's not a tool for every occasion as many operators seem to think! |

Perfect for presentations/vocal work. Had a demo a few weeks back, from the guys at Bose, and altho it sounded super chrisp, and lovelly, it lacked sufficient volume for what many pro mobile DJs need. Very mobile tho, very easy to assemble, very clear, reliable....the list goes on... Just not THAT loud sub 200hz.... :) |

the guy i worked for has just brought 2 of the L1 Mk1 but with single subs for each so 2 columns and 2 subs. great to carry and move compared to 4 x 15" speakers and amps, they sound really clear with a great spread and are incredibly loud for what they are. Will be using them for an 18th tomorrow so I will let you know how they get on. I tested them in the warehouse and i think they will lack bass for tomorrow but we will have to see

Well i just got back and to update you as i said i would. 18th Birthday party, 140ish people. 2xL1 MK1. Overall. Plenty loud enough but as im sure you could guess lacked bass and that general punch you look for in the chart music at 18ths. Only really played chart so nothing too 'heavy' going through it but it did sound good, gives a good spread and a 'wide' sort of sound. but for bigger parties with heavier music. Need more bass, they are just not loud enough and certainly cant go low enough :(. Overall though was a good night, birthday girl was thrilled and everyone enjoyed the night so no-one noticed a 'lacking' system.

Bose products aren't bad, just a bad value for the price.
The big Bose boom-box is quite good, and I would buy one if it was $250 (it's like $1200). Really, two 2-1/2" drivers and a 4-1/2" woofer, why does it cost so much? |

Because all that smoke, and all those mirrors, don't come cheap. You are paying far more for the marketing and the lifestyle statement, than for the intrinsic product. Edited by madboffin - 27 March 2010 at 5:15pm |

One DJ I know uses two Void Basys 15 inch subs with his L1s ,hidden behind his deckstand surround cloth. Only using the in-built Bose amplifiers ( around 150/8r) on the sub outputs but it makes quite a difference as compared to the standard 4 bins.
I think the total output is around 750 watts per stack, but I am not sure on that point. |
