Have trialed the L1 system and used 802s, How do they keep selling stuff? For half the price I could put a small rig together that would sound as good at higher SPL, Im talking of 8"+1" with 10" bins.
I wanted smaller and lighter speakers for both disco and presentation work wich is why I was looking at bose stuff, needlessly to say I ended up building my own stuff (10"+1").

SEDA did a shootout at our September Shownight between the affordable LD Marui 28, the HK Elements and the original 750 watt per side Bose L1( latest version is only 500 watts per side ), all brought-in by members or retailers. For my money, the best sounding was the HK which was also the smallest/neatest/easiest to set-up for weddings etc, which is where our members use these mini line-arrays mostly. Bear in mind the quick-change element, discrete components that do not stick-out like a'proper' speaker system. Cost-wise I think the prices were something like £ 1,500 per pair for the LD, approx £ 2,500 for the HK and over £ 4,000 for the Bose. The Bose L2's are around £1,800 per pair.
Personally, I do not like the sound of mini or any Line-Array come to that, of those I have heard so far anyway. For ease/speed of set-up, discrete components and reasonable throw, all powered off one 13 amp socket, the L1 is popular with the punters as well as the DJ's who use them. They are also extremely well made and reliable workhorses for the wedding market. |
