I'm using NL2FX.

I guess you just answered my question.

That will require removal of the outer sheath.

So just thinking about this...unless someone is going to tell me different, there is no reason why I shouldn't send 1kw down a cable and into an NL2 connector, so either the design of the connector is inadequate (and as far as I know it is the international standard these days for speaker connections, so that would be a HUGE error), or the requirement for 4mm cable is incorrect. Or maybe there is a third conclusion I have missed?

Not totally sure what you mean by this. While I don't mean to insult your intelligence lol LOL just to clarify I assume you realise you have to remove a small part of the outer jacket to expose the cores inside, and then a small part of these to expose the copper inside and insert that into the connector terminals?

Are you using the newer style NL2 or the older one?

Heh, yeah I know. The outer part of the cable is too large - both for the hole in the outer part of the NL2 and the cord grip.

I am not sure of the difference between new and old style connectors but I have just taken this one off the end of a cable I bought from Thomann, which was previously attached to a 1.5mm cable.

The outer sheath on most cables differ, so 4mm most times fit straight in , some dont

Lineax / titanex is about the thickest 4x4mm cable ive seen, it is a snug but easy fit into a  NL4FC. the more common NL4FX has a smaller entry so would be very tight / impossible.

Indeed it has. I could understand it if the core had more than two conductors.
