Once you have used the 4 core, you will never want to see another 2 core. They are flimsy and crappy little things by comparison.

NL2 are horrible little buggers. Strictly domestic IMHO.
NL4 is just so much more the correct plug to use, even if two poles are not being used. Ferrules are best practice, but not totally necessary. If you can, you should, but not end of world.

Bear in mind there is a new NL2 connector out, which is much closer to the design of NL4. This is the old one (NL2FC): That we all know and hate, with the grey section that flicks forward to access the cable screws, then slides back into place. As everyone says it was a horrible connector than no one liked or used, and any professional company just binned it and used NL4 anyway, even if they were using 2 core cable and were only using +/-1 (Personally I bought loads of the yellow body parts for NL4 and put them on my 2 core cables, so I could tell the difference. All my 4 core NL4 are just normal, and my 2 core look like..... . However Neutrik have listened to all the complaints, and have brought out a new NL2 (NL2FX) that looks like this..... While I haven't used one myself, looking at pictures of it dissembled it seems to be just taken from the exact same moulds and design as the NL4FX, and I would assume has the same size of cable entry etc. k

I have several 2FX, seem to the exact same as 4FX - 2 pins.
But if you are buying new, i'd get the 4FX. Not much more than 50 cents between them. |
