Topic: Chinese Amp ImportersPosted: 18 February 2012 at 12:58pm |

Know a few people looking to purchase amps from China.
Anyone do this on a regular basis ? Obviously not including importers who bring in chinese amps, and rebrand/reprice them as English. ![]() Edited by levyte357 - 18 February 2012 at 12:59pm |

I bought a load of stuff from these guys a few years back:
http://www.tdaudio.com/en/index.asp These cabs: http://www.tdaudio.com/en/TM15II.htm And amps: http://www.tdaudio.com/en/EX3400.htm Good quality build on everything and they were easy to deal with and very cheap shipping costs. I lost the cabs in a fire , but all the amps are still going strong. I´d try them. |

I think that this forum and FSP should conduct a campaign to gradually try to fade out anything from China, because long term, they will rule our lives. I know that even a british amp is likely to contain components from China, however, at least a good proportion of the money stays with us. I know this wouldn't suit a lot of people, because a lot buyers will always want to buy cheap. I have bought Chinese product in the past, and may do in the future, but I really would like to see a way out of this situation.

I understand what you´re saying, but 90% (or more?) of our electronics comes from there, so it´s very difficult. I´d love to see a 'native' industry again - but also remember some very poor quality 'Made in the UK' products. I do hope that the present crisis will make everyone look again at the economic model we´ve built and change things, but it seems to me that, at least in the UK, the banks and vapourware economy still rules.
Also, the stuff I bought was not, imho, your typical cheapo crap. It was being sold at silly prices at a place in France, so I went direct. The cost to bring the stuff to Europe was very cheap, but I still had to pay import taxes, VAT, etc, so made my contribution to the exchequer! ![]() |

English amps that providing same value for money as Big Chinese iron, would encourage me to buy English. Unfortunately it'll never happen, so China + delivery + import duty it is. ![]() Edited by levyte357 - 18 February 2012 at 9:41pm |

China will not always be cheap, but at the moment they are cheaper. However, they don't have to pay for designing or development, they just rip people off, and the people who buy will always feed that situation.

Don't forget Tony, there are plenty of UK companies buying China ripoffs, rebrand them to UK name, then charge 3-5x the price. Amplifiers, LMS, you name it. Some right here on this forum. ![]() It's not Joe Bloggs buying 1x heavy amp that feeds China, it's the companies who bring stuff in by the pallet load. I agree with tony. this country needs it, but also agree with Lev .. its a rip off people importing chinese gear and rebranding it for 3x's the cost .. this country really does need to start producing more .. we produce some of the best designers and engineers etc in the world .. but look at our industry .. even sheffield steel is up the swanny.. we need to be exporting .. not importing

I know it is tempting to go dealing directly with China but there is one thing which should be considered. When something goes wrong, you are alone paddling in the shit creek. Your deal is with chinese and you need to deal with them. You can get support, or you may not get anything.
When dealing with UK seller they are responsible and you have law on your side. Yes, it may feel and in some cases it is a rip off, but there is much more included than just a profit in that price. But, everyone makes their own decissions. I don't buy anything from china, and try to avoid it as much as possible. Been there, seen that. Don't like it, won't support it. |

Unfortunately, regarding UK manufacturing, Elvis has already left the building. We can applaud years of governments mistreating UK businesses for this. ![]() Consider the company Darq for instance. Bringing in Pallet loads of amps and speakers from China, charging upto 4x times China price, stating amps were manufactured in UK, even using Soundstandard production pics, saying it was UK factory. ![]() They got dealt with by Crest, but other UK companies are now more sophisticated. Still just rebadging rip offs, and charging 'big dolah', as it's easy money. |
