So ready to build my speakers, just a little info needed
if I use 2 speakers 1 of which is coaxel (HF @ 8ohms midbass @8ohms)
along with a dedicated passive crossover for the above (again@ 8ohms)
also want to add 12" woofer @8 ohms with 120Hz passive crossover
now if I conect the 120hz crossover to the bass output on the dedicated coaxel crossover is that going to cause problems ,is it also going to cause the amp to see midbass & woofer speakers (both 8 ohns ) as 4 ohms? leaving a mismatch with the HF driver at 8 ohms,OR will the amp only see the dedicated Crossover at 8 ohms and supply power as such?
have been told that the amp just see's the crossover ,just don't know how true that is ?
any help offerd well recived
Al

If you have the 12" driver connected to the 'lo out' on the crossover, it will see anything below 120hz. If the crossover for the coax is then connected to the 'hi out' on the crossover it will see everything above 120hz. Your amp will see 8 ohms, simple as that.

so your sayin it would be better to have to 120hz xo first in the chain?

It all sounds a bit messy, but should work like that, yes. You´ll have to check the phasing of the system as the bass unit on the coaxial will most probably need reversing, ie swap around the red and black cables.

If I'm reading this right what you want to do is connect the coax up as per normal with it's own passive crossover, and then connect a separate crossover for the other 12" driver to the low pass output for the coax driver?
If this is correct you would surly end up with a 4ohm load at the amp, and you would also probably end up with a frequency shift on the coax driver.
No matter what you put into your system if your speakers are shite it'll sound shite! Simple init?
