yes but the colour codes on the originals show the Crown vbe-hfe grade. They all need to be the same grade. Farnell only have generic ones. If yours dont have colour codes then it might be an older C-Audio one ie a GB series pcb?? Edited by kedwardsleisure - 22 February 2012 at 8:34pm |

I'll get it opened up tonight and look. I know with my BGW off the shelf power transistors were a waste of time, wound up replacing all 10 on one side, that was 20 years ago or so, still going strong (as strong as it ever was).
If it is an older one without color codes what do I do?

I opened it up, I don't see any color codes. Hopefully these pics help. What are my options for matching transistors?

Just a thought, is there a way to quickly isolate one channel and test the amp to determine which side is bad?

Thats probably one of the c-audio GB-based ones, might even say GB on the pcb silkscreen.

OK, i have the amp opened up, and checked the emitters to the case and found one side of each row shorted, is the next step to remove each pair of transistors and check each indivually?

The easyest thing to do is to de-solder each of the emitters to each transistor that shows a short on the PCB & then measure between the heatsink & the de-soldered emitter of each transistor to find out which one/ ones are shorting. Doing it this way saves a lot of time rather than having to take all the transistor's off of each heatsink. Regards

Values as requested.
Q106 = BF422 Q109 = BC556 Q113 = MJE15032 Q108 = BC546 Q110 = BF422 C214 = 100NF 50 Volt 10%. R231 = 100 Ohm 1/4 watt. |
