Q1 can be had for under a grand a box if you know where to look and don't mind them being in perfect nick. Sure you then also need to buy some D12 to run them but plenty of those about too as bigger outfits move to D80. [/QUOTE] Where have you seen them at this price? we have been looking out for them for a wile now and have not seen them anywhere near this cheap yet. cheers James

hahaha, nailed it . It's nice they have been used on a genre of music which can be appreciated to actually hear the difference on, rather than just another chart gig there's no interest in where people dont want to actually listen and hear the difference. This is why 95% of things named 'sound system' generally sound pants to me, compared to pro stuff you can't compete. shame there wasn't some L'Acoustics there too, although ive never heard it sound great in a large scale arena [due to noise police restrictions etc], hearing it used properly without restrictions its immense, and on all sorts of genres/sources too, it just works. |

I can remember the first time I heard an L'Acoustics system, don't ask me what it was as it was quite a few years ago and I may have been in a bit of a shape but from memory it was six small boxes a side staked on the bass bins in a packed 3000 capacity tent and the volume and clarity of the sound even stood right at the back blew me away, the year before they had Res5's and they didn't even compare.

Another take. Mighty impressive, powered. Can be overkill in small places though

Yeah, can't remember model, belongs to BP Sound (not on here much). There is also a guy who uses the tops on top of some Wattco scoops. The tops go surprisingly low. I'm always looking for the hidden bass bins, but no, 8 x reflex 18's is it.
Edit: Got models https://www.thomann.de/gb/rcf_sub8006_as.htm https://www.thomann.de/gb/rcf_hdl_20_a.htm?ref=search_prv_6 And people want a 200£ sound system rental! Edited by nickyburnell - 06 March 2017 at 8:57pm |

The RCF HDL is stupidly cheap for what you get, and sounds pretty good when setup right. You won't find it on any riders but it does the job.
Sadly because the boxes aren't costly to start with there are some providers putting them out for disgustingly low rental rates. You laugh at £200 but I've seen a 6 top a side and 4 sub RCF HDL system go out for not much more than that… |

hey
Yeah just to confirm, that looks much more like D&B V series than Q. The subs are 18" driver with a little 12" driver at the back to make it cardioid, and in this case provide kick, and then the V tops are Double 10" with an 8 and some comps. its probably the system I use most just now as one of the companies I do a lot of freelance for has a big pile of it. Sounds great, top quality components and well put together rigging and package. However these days anyone can use a CNC machine and spend a few bob on drivers. Even use programs like Hornresp to make fairly capable complex designs with horns etc. However as someone said, its the professional processing that makes the difference. Having the knowledge, science and the proper testing equipment/locations to really measure and properly set up the cabs with FIR crossovers and EQ etc, and having the controller able to sense the condition of the drivers and what they are doing, and provide dynamic EQ and limiting to control the sound output properly right up to the limit of the cab, and at the same time provide enough protection that it's almost impossible to blow anything. Unless your buying the kind of quality of DSP you get with Armonia or Lake, and have the knowledge and experience to properly measure it and set it up, it'll be VERY hard to match what the pro companies are doing these days. k

If we are talking about sound system only, that is pretty much the going rate here for any system of that size. Even if that is D&B.

No business model there. Even massively discounted lets say you spend 30k?
Needs to be making more than 200 quid for that investment. |
