cheers :) my plan is to make them from laminated wood, depending on how heavy the first ones come out i'll then think about other methods, shouldn't be too bad though.

going to be interesting to see how long each lamination takes to set, could end up being a long process... that said once done it should be fairly nails.

should've finished a bass cab by tomorrow to see if that's any cop whilst starting the proper build of the mid horns.

couldn't you have a removable rear chamber and driver / plug assembly, take the hf horn out, and make them stackable, one insider the other for touring? with the other stuff kept inside them? you could even make hex shaped wheel boards.

wow, hadn't seen them, do you have any more info as all i can find is a few pictures and a site about flat panel install stuff?

the first pair of these (proper versions) are set to be installed in dls in sheffield, think i've worked out how to make it tourable though, will have to out 'em both on one stack and see how well they array/badly they comb :)

Embarrassed Unfortunately not, I found out about them via a paper I read about on live sound that I think mentioned some spec's but I can find the paper now. If I come across it I will link you.

They did say that they sounded amazing for very delicate instruments, like a flute. I would presume this is because of the type of parabolic horn. Have you tried anything like this? Do you have any readings from these yet? Or even plots from sims that you would share?

I have always (probably the same as everyone else) had the conflict of size VS SPL response while designing and me being boring I always air on the side of caution and stick to the portable smaller plan so I do really respect this kind of work as its normally just made as a showcaseClap. Do you have a date for the DLS install, ill check it out then next time in in Sheffield.

i noticed earlier that woodwind/flutes sounded quite nice now you mention it,  tbf most things sound quite nice through them, will get a screen grab of the plots.

randomly there's a guy from leeds uni wanting some speakers to do a project on analysis/rta, bingo, possible anechoic chamber access <grin> funny old world.

spent the day unsuccessfully destructively testing the 15 in the bass cab, hornresp said unhappy at 500w, 1000w (clipped) of gabba and its still playing, this is good.

the general philosophy i've come to this idea through is due to the imperials making me more fully realize that things were basically just better in the past. they got made worse in exchange for convenience. that's gash. 'give me convenience or give me death' or something like that ;)

previous system was all based around being an easy 1 man carry or easy to get into a van with wheelboard by myself so i can appreciate the other logic totally.

DLS install prob next month or so, but if anyone wants to come and hear them in the meantime just say the word...

Since you clearly like a challenge, I reckon the 'real' versions should be totally oblate spheroid!
