It's a bit late to comment on this post (and that is an old, old picture!)  We discontinued the Z-5000 because the cones and suspensions of these drivers didn't last in this design.  They handled a lot of power and I don't remember one blown voice coil but the surround wasn't up to the job of subwoofer duty. The cones would buckle.  That might explain the kack effect.  Since I took over the design department I like to think that we have removed the kack from our current (and future) offerings!

PS: The Z5000 can be retrofitted to the Z-5/D.

Thanks for the response David.... and welcome to Speakerplans!

So what is the Z-5/D ? There does not appear to be details on your website?

From the sounds of your previous post they were the standard 10" Faitals, is that correct?

Enjoy your self...... It's later than you think.......

Hi DeXter,

Thanks for the welcome! I look forward to contributing to the community!

The new website is in development.  All will be updated by the first of the year!

Yes, the Z5000 was loaded with the 10" Faitals with the 4" voice coils. It was essentially a Z-5 with the 10" drivers manifolded into it to increase power handling.  The Z-5/D is an updated version of the Z5 cabinet with some internal modifications and a new 18" driver.  It's a high-impact bass horn with very flat response.  A set of 4 will deliver a solid 40Hz.  It's not made to do the really deep stuff, though.  I can email a cut sheet if you would like to see it before the new site goes live.

Best,
David Lee

Hi David and welcome to the forum.

It’s great to hear from a manufacturer that is so open and candid about their products!

it's all just cardboard and magnets really

Faital Pro make some naughty drivers, very good value for money too!!

A friend bought some Faital pro 12pr300's, they are very accurate and efficient to their power rating!!

I did a lot of research into these Faital 18HP1040's recently, they are simply awesome drivers that will work in most designs, iv never herd them personally in anything but only heard good things about them.

If this 10" is anything like the rest of the drivers they produce it will be good.

A friend of mine has 2 of their 18" drivers in 1850 horns, not exactly sure which driver it is but its one of the 1200 watt high performance series. They sound good and go loud but i have yet to here one in an 1850 next to a PD loaded 1850.

Im building some MKB-230 kick bins after xmas and the recommended drivers are two faital pro 12fh500. This is an alternative to two RCF MB12G301 according to the plans. I will report back when they are loaded and running Smile
