Woah! - a 4.5 year old thread exhumed from the grave .....
But to answer the question, yes. A plug would decrease the throat area, and increase the flare rate of the initial section of the horn, both of which could be beneficial to top end response, although it may have some impact on the low end. An experiment: Place an MT122 on its back on bricks so that it can still be plugged in. Disconnect the horn Play some full range music through it at a comfortable level to listen to right in front of it. Holding a full (for mass) Coke bottle by the neck end, carefully lower it into the throat WITHOUT letting it drop onto the cone, and listen to the difference it makes at different distances from the cone. Try it with different size Coke bottles (did I say not to drop it on the cone?) and compare. Edited by Centauri - 04 March 2012 at 10:18pm |

I've seen these before, they look amazing. As i said i want to put them into a mt 122, is this possible.. i mean what about the maths/ science... where do i go from here?
I have all the tools as im a self employed joiner, just havent got the brain to work out what i need to do in order to make them work well, i also need advice on how to make them... i see you have laminated what looks around a 12mm peice in the centre.. why is this? can you help me? |

wood ch'ka a plug for the mt122 cant be done, you would need to completely re design the horn first....... at which point it would not be an mt122 but a 2x12 midtop horn......

i'm on a phase plug mission at the minute, spent all day trying to take a cast of the driver cone with various 'spandy foams with some success, worst case scenario i have something workable once its been filled and sanded, but it would be nice to get something more right without the faffing.
anyone got any recommendations for something that doesn't heat up too much and leaves a solid casting?
