The XLS seems to be actually made by Phonic. The real questions is, will the XLS/XP5000 acutally do 2 ohm stereo/4 ohm bridge without releasing the magic smoke. However, the QSC is fitted with decent Mains connector, and supplies power consumption figures on the website. |

The Crown, Phonic and the QSC are all probably made in the same Chinese factory and if so will have almost identical specs but I always find it quite amusing looking at the different prices charged by the name manufacturers for all this type of re-badged gear----You can always see who is being very greedy.

Whats the list on the Clown XLS5k in the UK?
2000 pounds is the list over here in Thailand - current promo 1300 pounds
QSC 5050 1800 pounds
Phonic XP5000 about 800 pounds c/w dodgy cabling FOC
Import taxes 20-30% sales tax 7%, + transport makes many brands way over the top for the local market.

QSC assembles the RMX and GQX Series in Singapore, Malasya and those Phonic amps are manufactured in Shenzhen, China.
Given the fact that the QSC RMX Series power output architecture has very little differences with their earlier-ancient Series One amplifiers, I could think that these recent Phonic/Crown devices are product of Chinese infamous Inverse Engineering procedure. I'd like to think that Crown bought and endorsed these power amplifiers as XLS & LPS Series in effort to launch a very affordable level entry solution to their market just to keep their boat floating through this world economic crisis and they never took further previsions of patents or copyrights. I just cannot imagine Harman Group or Crown's General Management taking the risk of violating Intellectual Property Rights to earn an additional couple of bucks, mostly when QSC Audio is located inside USA where zillionaire lawsuits are the house specialty.
As entry level amps are subject of piracy policies, there are other high tech, high profile and very expensive amps cloned too. In this same thread I could see some fake Lab.gruppen devices which exhibit clearly the same components in the same layout but costs just 600€ if you buy 10 pieces. The only thing they couldn't afford was Lab.gruppen's proprietary NomadLink monitor hardware cause it clearly would imply some internal collaboration and I'm pretty sure that's not the case.
Meanwhile, people around the world buy those Asian clones regardless the procedence of their designs whilst original manufacturers are investing valuable resources to keep their business running on. Do you imagine the Camco or Electro Voice Logo in the front plate of these "original" amplifiers? Would you buy them? Yeah, I thought the same way.
