Those big PMC's really do sound nice but look much nicer in the natural wood finish version. They probably also work better with the bass only cabinet stacked under the main ones but it does make them a bit tall for domestic listening. I saw/heard them in one of the BBC Maida Vale studios, sitting behind the 92 channel SSL..... They look a bit more at home in that setting.

The volt drivers are made down the road from me in Dorset. They are all made in house ( bass & mid drivers), i have been to their workshop/factory when collecting spares.. loved the smell of copper! Great drivers & made in this country, by people! Was amazing to see.

Loosely based on the JBL K2 9800. 2 way, 150L bass reflex tuned to 30hz, xover @ 800hz 24LR, active.
I feed them with Squeezebox Touch into MDAC, amps MC2 650'S, xover XTA 226. The horns were made from layered birch ply, the throat was cnc'd from a SolidWorks file Edited by cooky1257 - 07 June 2012 at 9:32pm |

The curvy bit on lower baffle and the top are covered in leather, the slope can/may accommodate a super tweeter at some point but they are good to 17khz(my ears aren't!) and so its mainly just for looks.

Very nice cooky. Only just seen this.
Bit disappointed that CNC was used though, was that on the throat only |

Hi Mykey,
Yeah just too complicated to get 4 throat halves exactly the same without computer help-for me at least. The rear throat lip in particular was critical, when matching up to the short phase plug 2452/2435's-even gentle buffing to improve the mdf finish put 2 out of circle...I eventually made 8 throat halves lol. Further tweaking has xover now LF 2nd order@570hz/HF@750hz LR, really pleased with them. Cooky |
