How about turning it around into a smaller chamber to maintan desired
volume, it will get some cooling and it needs that to run 3400w continuous power!
Is it still a scoop then? Or a poocs. |

Just been an update to horn resp in the last couple of days that makes it easier to sim scoops.
Hornresp now automatically recognizes a scoop when Vrc and Lrc are set to 0. In doing so, the Acoustical plot now automatically provides a combined response of both Direct Radiating and Horn. (PS this could have been done before but had to be selected each time) |

Nice one, is no one on here reversing the driver of a scoop?
I saw some people at fuzion festival that reversed the drivers of their 21" scoops, the front was extended a bit to protect the driver. Should help cooling quite a bit! |

Did anyone TRY the b&c sw115 OR the rcf lf18x451?
Both look good in terms of power handling & Xmax. But again: more power makes more heat, so over time any driver gets HOT no matter how big power handling it has got. It wouldn't surprise me if 1850 could outperform more promising drivers in power handling as it has a BIG magnet to cumulate heat, well at least until that magnet is too hot. Time for a re-post, any contributions?:

I use the 18SW115 in my RX18jnr, and at the moment wouldn't change it for anything. It seems to be a very strong speaker, having survived 2 years of flat out Gigs.

IMHO, probably only 7-8x of those drivers on the entire chart, are truly Exemplary in Scoops.

VERY interesting!-)
I just added that here: http://forum.speakerplans.com/topic69837_post866776.html#866776 BUT how would the rcf x451 driver do you think? it's only 3/5 of the price! Another question, do you have any idea what these boxdesings are that king tubby sound sold for firehouse in Denmark? https://scontent-b-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/t1.0-9/10250146_10151976352636734_8183617537451159840_n.jpg I was thinking the kicks where usb bins, but it doesn't look so in this pic. I can't wait to hear this system outside with less limtation! Edited by tv00 - 18 May 2014 at 8:19pm |

Only reason I didnt have b&c sw115 OR the rcf lf18x451 on my list (US avail.) is due to price.
Only listed drivers <$300... Edited by DiscernAudio - 15 May 2014 at 2:17pm |

As a member of the sound I can assure you that we do not run anything through a "smallish fp6400 amp". We use two L'acoustics Pad 04, which is basically 8 X Lab4000 Amps. We use 4 lab4000 amps for 8 scoops. Every single scoop has a separate channel of 1300 watt rms i 8 ohm. And where on earth did you get the idea that we drive it thorugh an extreme subout dsp limiter? We use an XTA DP 448 and the limiter very sparringly, only to protect our speakers in extreme circumstances. Our super scoops use PD1852 drivers and our folded horn kick bins use Fane 1000 drivers. I stand corrected! I have edited my post.
Sorry for posting this, I should definately check up on things first You have the perfect amplification going! I'm just a jealous guy LOL! You guys have a KILLER sound, there's a BIG potential in this system when you get it outside & figure out to push it to the limit! I'm looking forward to this summer! I thought you where running one LA48 amps which is fp6400 on all scoops, and actually I don't even agree with myself that this is not enough in most cases, because this is only just 3db less than fp13000. Still curious about the designs. Try setting delays to fit scoop cone & then scoop horn & see which you like, first thing gives a big kick. |
