The girlfriend wanted a Christmas tree. I wanted to play with power tools... somehow we came to a compromise... it's the only time I'll be allowed to use power tools in the lounge room!
Good way to spend a couple of nights in a hot Australian summer - wait 'til dusk, open a beer and start playing outside Here are some pics of the build, we took a few influences (including a pic from SP) and combined them together. Hope this if of interest to some: Bare wood Planning the shape, a Sunday afternoon craft session SP influence, a blown driver to be used as the base. 30mm square pine as the "trunk" "Workshop" setup on the footpath of a busy road, right next to a brothel. Using a bunch of big SLA batteries as weights OH&S officer wasn't too impressed with work being performed bare foot whilst drinking Trunk had the edges rounded over to fit in speaker vent, I love the little Ryobi battery router Dustcap was cut off to allow the trunk to fit in deeper, since this driver was a freebie and trashed I didn't feel bad about doing more damage It was decided we'd have holes cut out for decorations, as great an idea as this was... it took ages, constantly unclogging a cheap holesaw. I was doing this until about 10pm, and my arm ached for days after Once the cutting was done, did a quick sand of the edges and put it together - it's only 3mm ply so a bit flimsy Upright, and looking like it should! was a 2 person job to keep its shape as it was stood up and screwed together Some minor details needed attention, I knew it would look like this but planned to hide it with a star Trusty Meccano box now stores screws of all sizes Painting in the lounge room was precarious, gloss enamel rolled on but thankfully no paint flicked around My pants weren't so lucky, wasn't a smart move to sit on a milkcrate after it'd been spray painted . Scrap ply was used to make a small tree to sit on our dining table, thankfully a much quicker job! Tree in place and decorated, it was a nightmare threading 20 metres of lights through the holes Plywood and novelty bins behind the tree are presents to myself. Also have a branch of "christmas bush" a native tree that flowers in late December, all we need for an Aussie christmas inside are a bunch of flying beetles that are only really seen at this time of the year too That's the job done... The grain of ply shows through the gloss black finish - I need to get a better photo as my phone camera isn't too great in low light. It looks a lot better than I'd expected, and the girlfriend is happy with it too House still smells of pine, but at least the cats won't tear off the branches off this tree |

Does anyone know if this design will work with a Crapsonic megawoofer car sub?
Great idea. Tree looks great. I had a similar issue. My wife wanted me to go Christmas shopping, but I hate shopping and I wanted to play with power tools so I am now nearly finished making a princess castle for my daughters. $11 worth of material and probably $200 equivalent worth in labor time.

Another lap of the sun, and it's almost Christmas time again...
Since I cut up this tree, I need to make another one. Hoping to be a little more elaborate, if I give myself enough time. What novelty have you speakerplanners in the works for Christmas? I know Hemisphere is planning a run of mini boombox as gifts |

Looking good. Great idea if the real tree causes more drama than it's worth.. I do like a real tree if possible but it's kind of ridiculous how there are whole plantations dedicated to growing nothing but Christmas trees to put up and trash every year.
Definitely beats anything plastic that's for sure.
