got that a bit wrong, the amp needs to give out to lower than 3000w at 4 ohms or 1500w at 8 ohms

Personally, I think it's the ideal amp for the job

Yes it's heavy, but a PD1850 scoop is hardly light

My friends use the same scoops as me, and they use a powersoft K10, which, whilst sounding much cleaner and punchier, doesn't have that bottom end growl somehow

Waiting for the inevitable numpsies to say, "It's not due to 8MK2 having the smoothing, & transformer/current handling to perform better on low notes, but just distortion making it sound louder".

No, most of analog amplifiers have lot smaller (laboratory) distortion values than even the best switching (Class-D,etc..) counterparts. Included Powersoft K10.

However the way how they interacting with the speakers as nonlinear&dynamic loads are different and here comes the difference in sound. Sometimes undamped, free-resonanting membranes driven by low damping factor or Class-H amplifier produce much rich low-end by exploiting the advantages of self resonant frequencies.

It could work with a pair of speakers but NOT with larger systems since the uncontrolled membranes mean random phase output so the final SPL may be lower with more enclosures than with few :-) This is why you will not see any analog amplifiers in large systems anymore...
