I posted several months ago about a  hip hop nightclub that needs a new system, and a new owner has stepped in & is working on funding repairs to the night club.  First step they are wanting to do is repair the lights and get them functional, then work on the sound system.  Currently they have the following...

2 JBL SR4733's, in great condition, all drivers working
2 JBL SR4719's, all 4 fried drivers
4 (unknown model at the moment) 15"/1" drivers flown around the dance floor
Various 10" speakers mounted around the club
Soundcraft Series 5 40-channel board (from previous owners when the venue was a pure music venue, in pretty good condition)

First step is going to be to obviously fix the subs.  I have two options: Try to fix the 4719's (at about $1000 per cabinet for JBL recones or $500 per cabinet for other brand drivers) or purchase/build all new subs for them.  I'm leaning more towards purchasing/building new, seeing as how 4719's are hard to come by, and would cost quite a bit to even replace them with the original JBL drivers.

If we build new subs, I've decided with the G-Sub plans with RCF L18P300 drivers, powered by QSC amps between 3000-4000 watts per cabinet.  At least 4 cabinets will be built, but possibly additional if the club requests them.  They will sit under the SR4733's bi-amped for the time being.

With the tops, if they choose to sell the JBL's, I had ideas to build new cabs to go over the G-Subs, based on the DM2 design also loaded with JBL drivers, this time tri-amped.  L15P530 15" drivers for lows, L10/750YK 10" drivers for mids, and N850's 2" drivers for highs.  Main reason I'm beefing up and going up to 2" highs is that the venue does bring in several national hip hop artists, so the 2" driver will fill rider requirements hopefully.

As far as the flying speakers, depending on what they contain, they will more than likely also be fully gutted and replaced with RCF drivers bi-amped as well.

This is all a quick 30-minute plan sitting in the same club at 2AM working a birthday party/rap show.  Whether the plans fall through and match up wit how much they want to spend, we will see.  But seeing as how I'm using 4 S30's (designed for rock of course) and averaging 115dB-120dB on the low end on the dance floor, you know what sort of venue I'm working with, haha.

You sould be able to recone those 18s for a very reasonable price there in the US.

You're right, I kept thinking that I would have to replace the whole driver ($500+) but I've been sitting in a hip hop night club for 5 hours, probably have a contact high, and just got to bed at 6AM, so my mind needs a LOT of rest time.  But you are right, I'm just not sure how well the 2241's would hold up to rap music.  The G-Sub with the RCF driver is supposed to go down to 37Hz with quite a bit of authority according to the plan.

I know if they do end up wanting to buy new I know a guy that would buy their sub cabs as they already have a ton of them.

I had 12 of those cabs back in the days. We cut them at 25hz and they managed to survive quite a beating. Now the question is weather you have enough rig for the gig or not.
Maybe someone will know if 2242 recone kit can be fit on 2241 chassis. That one has more power handling.

BTW i thing that Peavey low rider will work just fine as a replacement for those boxes with no box mod. And those are cheap there. Can also take gobs of power.

Well, plans changed, someone got shot at the bar so they're out of business.  Not a surprise, the way the club scene is there anymore.  But, we are taking the idea and thinking about building a small bar rig the same way.  My buddy used to have a set of KF850's (still does but he's selling them) so we have the amps and processing still to do a three-way box with subs, so we're thinking about building two double 18's, a low box, and a mid/high box.  Still debating between double 12/8/2" or double 15/10/2".  Even thought about a double 8/2" high box if we can build it right, similar to a line array but with a standard horn.  Reason for keeping the boxes separate is because this is going to be designed to be a one-man rig, and putting the speakers in the same box while providing enough SPL to do the hard rock shows this rig will be for is tough.
