Very rare? Since when?
Often available for £200-£300 used. Probably rare for the 100 quid you want to spend though. £100 will get you a DBX 1046, with maybe some change left over, but in reality the KT is a different league. |

Came close to dishing out £175 for 1x, few weeks back. Spent proper money on DN360 & DN410, but wondering if the DN504 is really worth £200+, seeing as DBX & Samson units do also sound clean, and aren't decades old. |

the only dbx comp worth using is the 160. the rest, no thanks. KT or BSS every time for analogue comps.

The older dbx compressors from the 1980’s downwards are the ones many are seeking from the recording world. Please bear in mind the recording market differs from the sound reinforcement market greatly. A lot of those compressors that the recording market is praising as the best would not perform as well than what we use in the sound reinforcement world. Historically, dbx is good for bass in addition to midrange applications due to the sound it inhibits when compressing the signal. The newer versions are more transparent than the older models which, is why those who like dbx compressors from the 1980s downwards do not fancy the newer dbx models of today. As we focus on sound reinforcement, it is best to understand at what frequencies we are planning to using the compressor for and, focus on which compressor will offer the best results under given circumstances. Choosing the proper compressor is quite obvious once you understand the meaning of the parameters each compressor offers per device in terms of ratio, attack in addition to release settings. Best Regards, |
