what would be the disadvantage of soldering xlr plugs and sockets to high grade speaker cable like kelsey or van damm to use in patch cables from xover to amps and from dj mixer to xover?
looking for something mega strong and robust while retaining optimum audio quality thanks all

If you correctly solder a Neutrik XLR to a Belden XLR cable and chuck it down fully it will survive more abuse than you could ever sensibly throw at it

Mostly the issue would be that the screen would suck, just use decent connectors and quality mic cable and you will be fine, you.could always look at starquad/strengthened jacketed cable if you really want, but van damme xke and neutrik connectors, soldered properly will last a lifetime

Speaker cable doesn't offer the shielding that mic/line cable does.

As above, just use decent branded signal cable, starquad if you really want to, terminate neatly with Neutriks and you'll have as good a patch cable as is realistically possible.
