Could we not allow the use of links to other resale sites to allow an entry into the for sale section on here??
The 10% Fleabay charge is way to much to wanna use it for large sales.
Surely there's some flexibility on this??

there's no "we" about it really... ian's the moderator, it's his call... i'm sure he'd tell you it's been discussed to death and that's that really.

annoying for sure.. but that's the way it is.

The commission for eBay helps pay some of the hosting fees for the website.

If you wanted to link to other sites to sale items then would need to charge you for listing the items in the for sale section which would probably end up costing more than the eBay fees and if the item does not sale then you have paid to list it on here without selling the item and you end up paying for an item that is not sold.

Therefore selling the item on eBay is the easiest way as you only pay if the item sales and you get to know some of that eBay fee for selling the item is helping to pay for your favourites website, speakerplans Smile

eBay also has a system in case there is a problem either for the seller or buyer, which means that moderators are not hassled if a sale goes paired shared, as it often did before the eBay rule was introduced.

Ok...I understand.
I'd be much happier to pay SP direct to advertise stuff if that was an option.
Is this a possibility??
It could be a good income stream but perhaps too much of a pain in a hole to manage??

hey

Yeah unfortunatly every time a sale went bad or there was some sort of problem, Bruce (the administrator and forum software designer) was left replying to lawyers letters and getting grief, even though the for sale section clearly stated buyers own risk etc etc.

He had no choice but to take it off the forum altogether and let ebay deal with it, with links to the sales providing a small additional income to help pay the hosting costs.

Its regrettable and we'd all like it to go back to the old way, we've all had our gripes with ebay and paypal, but not worth the hassle for the Admin team.

Plenty of other avenues to trade, and this current approach also appears to limit how many "wanna buy my gear" posts creep in to other sections of the forum

I agree.  Say no to the for sale section, though in many ways most revealing, it attracted totally the wrong kind of traffic. Some of the overspill did the forum very poor service.
