might be obvious to some, but not to me.. and i'm not sure what it's called so i'm not sure what to search the web for, but i can't figure out how to release them.
have a couple of crest amps i'd like to replace the power cable on, but have never known how to open the thing that secures it to the amp case (strain relief). are they openable or is it just a sacraficial part that you replace afterwards? thanks if anyone can advise.. |

We probably need a picture to see exactly what type of strain relief you are referring to. I've got an idea but don't want to give you the wrong instructions.

this is not my photo, but like this
it looks like it should be just that you compress one bit of it and then it slides out.. but doesn't seem to work like that. thanks. |

I recall at 13 years of age, I would use a flat head Screwdriver to raise the lower part (that resembles a separate part on the outer side of the amplifier) and slide the cable outward. In order to do so, you need to raise the lower part on the internal part of the amplifier. Best Regards, |

I also used a pliers and squeezed the lower part with the top part on the internal part of the amplifier when I was unable to position the Screwdriver correctly. Best Regards, |

It's a heyco strain relief bush. There's a proper tool for that. But a large pair of nail pulling pliers will work. Helps if you warm the cable up with a hairdryer before removing or reinserting. They're reuseable unless you mangle them.

If you can get access, it sometimes works better to squeeze the gland from the inside as you push it back through the panel. If not, you just have to do it from the outside.
If you're replacing the cable you could cut it flush with the inside of the gland to make it easier to get the pliers onto.
With this type of gland, the cable is used as the 'spring' to cause the gland to expand and lock into the cut-out. It'll be obvious once you get it out! |

Yeah, you need about half the force to crimp and push than you do to crimp am yank!!! Truth is if you want to bin the cable, razor it off both sides and push the cores thru. Personally, I think that type of gland would be better shown in the cable cutter page of a catalog, not the gland page. If you have space, blow out to 23.8mm and powercon it!!! If you want to re-use the gland, cutting the cable and pushing out make is mint for re-use... |
