I was in a venue this week and spotted this Pioneer DJM800 mixer. Chatting to the venue owner, this "house" mixer has had new faders etc and works perfectly. The fader backplate clearly shows its "mileage"! Can anybody out there find a more "used" mixer? |

Look as if it's festered with all kinds of DNAs and contaminations...

Common state to find a DJM800. The rubber knobs react with the oils in the skin and turn to goo. The paint reacts with smoke fluid and turns to goo. I've got one here in slightly worse condition in that it looks like that one and as a bonus doesn't work and never will.

That just shows the craftsmanship of Pioneer mixers offer the home audio philosophy. A very pleasing kit from an aesthetical point of view however not durable enough for the rigors of the road. When you sit back and look at the ratio of other mixers that are considered high end that are older than the Pioneer DJM 800 you don’t find the paint worn off to such a degree. Best Regards, |

Seen plenty of Xone the same - and not one 900Nexus or newer.

This is a fair point - there's some really shitty looking 62's and 92's out there - but I've never seen a bad looking 900 nexus so far. |

In the netherlands the Dateq gpm8 ( combined with a denon dn2000) was the standard mixer of choice untill Pioneer came round. Bulletproof, faders and pots from Alps. Early ones used engraved anodized aluminium fronts (and small neons for VU-metering, how cool..) later ones industrial powdercoated steel.
At the PA-markt, a jumble sale for gear, the dateqs from 1991 look fresher than a 2011 pioneer..and mostly don't need any service beyond scraping layers of nicotine and beer off of them. Still are used frequently for simple mixing dutys in pubs or so, earning money while the pioneers are relegated to attics of 15 year olds Edited by Bams - 24 March 2017 at 8:34pm |
