Hello everyone, just trying to downsize my rack (in kg) as all my amps are toroidal. i have a crest playing low mid/kick  2 per channel so 4 ohm was wondering if a  could do the same job with enough headroom,  once or twice i have ran the crest at 2ohm (4 per channel) without any issues and no clipping as i have got limiter set. should i go for the pkn 5002?? or keep the ca18???  any thoughts ideas and comments are appreciated thanks.

Do not compare old Class-H to a modern switching amp. It is unfair competition
The 5002 has much lower power requirement and delivers +2000W more on 2 Ohm than CA18.
Yet its sound quality is not affected by mains changes + has PFC.
The 5002 has much clear "no clipping sound" near the max. output.

Thanks for the reply ,so would the 5002 be stable st 2ohm? Or would I need to get two to run 6 speakers and the one off 2ohms? Asking as I'm interested in getting one .

How is XE5002 2000W more powerful then CA18?
I used to own 6 of the CA18, and they will totally embarrass any PKN you like at 4ohm sub duty. They have same power per channel at 4 ohm.
And yes i have compared the CA18 with the XE6000.
PKN has no chance no mater what it says in the spec.

Was not the question on 2 Ohms loading?

The XE5002  is a low impedance optimized amp (unlike the 6000!)
http://www.pknaudio.com/xe_eng.html

CA18 is 2400W/ch 2R
XE5002 is 3200W/ch 2R

The XE has not only lot better efficiency but recycles some reactive energy of the speaker, further reducing the power requirement by this way. The CA can do nothing with back EMF due its rail separation diodes BLOCKING REVERSE ENERGY FLOW, so the voice coils floating undamped between rail steps!!!

Have you compared the XE5002 with CA18 when all channels loaded by four of 800W/8R speakers?
Total 8 speakers per amp?

An average CA18 will do 3500W @ 2R sinewave

In which alternate dimension?  How would you maintain that AC does not drop a single Volt under load?

Crest CA series is very conservatively rated. We have even worked at 1ohm load when we must to.
They survived about 12 years of heavy touring. Being trowed in mud, soaked with rain, full with sand, you name it.
PKN might be rated batter, but side by side PKN dont deliver the low notes.
CA18 kills the XE6000 at 4 ohms.
I am not bashing the PKN, i have moved my PKNs to top duty where i absolutely love them.
But for subs, i use other amps.

maybe im misinterpreting this but the op is using it for low mid/kick not sub heavey bass you lot seem t be arguing about
id think the pkn will do just fine and saves shedloads of weight in the desired usage
GOD TOLD ME TO DO IT !!!!!
