Has anyone ever had the chance of witnessing a PK sound system and can provide some sort of comparison with a "similarly marketed" system like void or rc1?
I am Canadian based and rent their speakers for our events regularly. I make trips down to the UK whenever I have the money and time but have not had the fortune of attending a night with a "similar rig" (for a lack of better words) to give me a good comparison my last visit to London two years ago really opened my eyes to the sheer diversity and number of sound systems in the UK. I had the privilege of attending: 1. DMZ10 - but I believe they were stuck with using the in-house system at electric Brixton from what I was told 2. VIVEK'S SYSTEM night - but as luck would have it, the venue imposed a last-minute sound restriction of roughly 105 decibels so their system was not running anywhere near full capacity 3. A carnival somewhere in Hackney with the roots guidance Soundsystem. Trojan sound and Iration step-pa's performed 4. A channel one soundsystem night at village underground The last two were unfortunately the only two nights where I heard a proper reggae soundsystem. Based on my limited exposure, I found that reggae sound systems did not provide enough low frequency to satisfy me (though I listen to heavy bass music and am definitely a bass head). I will say that they however do sound much more balanced and well rounded. |

I doubt that anyone here has heard PK. They do not exist in Europe, or elsewhere, beside Canada and USA.

Is pk sound generally supplying line array's to their gigs, or do they utilise powerful dedicated pointsource/conventional top cabinets aswell? My guess would be for sidefill and such work.
Not sure how common funktion one are in the states, but if you get the chance to listen to a proper set up of res 5 and f221 it's heavenly. Would love to hear rc1 someday! |

For festivals, they utilize fully suspended line arrays for their tops but still have cabinet stacks for their bass. When it comes to rentals in clubs etc, majority is comprised of a two way system of Bass cabinets with either top cabinets directly on top or on tripods Here's a link to their clubland bins http://www.pksound.ca/products/cx800/ Edited by jngggggggg - 27 April 2017 at 3:59pm |
