    Posted: 19 August 2008 at 9:46am

Hi guys, not been on here for a very long time... not sure if this is in the right bit... but here goes

started working a nightclub and they have a MAckie powered system working in one of the rooms...

Just recently i have decided to go round and take a look at all the problems with it... and found there was quite a few...

the sound system compromises of:
2x SWA1501 Subs
2x SWA1801 Subs
4x SA1521z Mid Tops

All the compression drivers in the cabs are blown.. The top end is being provided by 2x CVA 12" coaxial boxes powered by a 4ch ecler amp..

Now the questions

1) I was wondering if anyone knew of where i could get replacement drivers from, or the next best thing. The driver has 2 codes on it: P/N0013925 & DN10/1704-8

2) Quite a few resistors are burnt out on some of the amps... so i was wonderign would i be better off trying to get hold of wiring diagrams for the amps so i can find out what resistors i need, or would it be easier to just get new boards for the amps.??

2a) IF needed i can get some HiRez images and email them to whoever wants to see them...

I think thats all the questions for now... so if anyone can help it is highly appreciated...

This is also being posted on squatjuice forums...

Compression driver is the discontinued P.Audio SN-D44

Easier to just replace the whole compression driver, the current equivalent is:

Or there is even cheaper options if you go for a ferrite driver.

Stan Lawrence at Surrey Amps may be able to help you. He does a lot of the warranty repairs for Mackie and has helped me out in the past.

Thanks for this!  I've just bought one for the 1532z I run in a live music venue, life-saver as we've got no other leads on a sparepart.  The diaphragms cost a small fortune to import from the US!

Yes, this is the answer, if there's burnt resistors in the amp they will have burnt out for a reason and replacements will likely do the same.

Many amps have large dropper resistors that work with zenner diodes to derive a low voltage from a higher rail. These necessarily dissipate heat and can scorch the PCB after a number of years operation, but the resistors themselves should still measure within tolerance.

Anyway, if you have any doubt it's best to get them checked out by a specialist.

if the mackie amp modules have blown resistors then changing the resistors will just blow them again; they are a symptom of more trouble, not the trouble itself.
SWA amp modules are not a repair for the novice.
Check the drivers are all correct or the working modules won't last long.

i used to have loads of Mackie, if you have blow drivers, just replace them with similar (power/watts)  RCF, but if you have problems with the amp's, then is another story... If you call Loud Technologies, ask them for the German website that has all Mackie spare parts and cheaper than anyone else :) I just can't remember the website anymore :/ hope that helps.

just opened up a pair of SA1521z and they have mismatched drivers in. one is unmarked but looks like the original BMD1704-RD part. the other is a celestion wn-d44. I see the preneo 450n is not available now. original part only seems to be available from the US. can anyone suggest an inexpensive alternative? also need one replacement woofer and to fix one of the amps - is it worth it?
