Hey

Reading about acoustic lenses. They were a fad for treble back in the 50s and they use them in sonar applications for beamforming and to control dispersion. They are used on some hi-fi speakers.

Could they be applied to lower frequencies? If you can find a suitable material which has a slightly different density to air, correctly shaped, could you not focus the sound waves?

I just have this vision of a bass bin horn with an acoustic lens at the mouth which gives a narrow dispersion, or even focuses the bass to a single point!!!?

Wavelengths of 8metres dont encourage lens usage,I think.

You can adjust the dispersion in general terms- make a tall labhorn stack or a really wide one for example.

maybe a giant tube would direct the bass a bit more, but still wouldnt be too good for the tuning
