The Maxamp is the only amplifier (that i'm aware of) that ships with high gain. You can undo that by soldering two pads. You don't have to use your Fiio as the gain already matches most mobile phones. If you haven't modified the input gain of the AMP6 you'll be amazed by how loud it will be with the Maxamp ;)

The TA2020 doesn't have short circuit protection on the speaker terminals, as opposed to the Maxamp, so yeah that was probably the cause.

Correct. Then clamp it and wipe of any excess.
