Dupe...

Something quite a few people overlook is :-

Nearly all car amp power specs are quoted at 14.4V - but - depending on the internal DC-DC up-conversion - in a cyclic battery scenario, the average voltage across the discharge cycle will be about 12V - and thats a drop of about 30% ..... unless the internal DC rails are regulated.

I use a 8604 in a setup with two Cubo 15 parallel down to 4 ohm and bridge into the amp, and two EV SX200 in the two remaining channels, and it does play loud.
At Roskilde festival we played about 150-200 people up, and thats with many other big systems around the area.
And the draw is about 4 A.

I think most car amps now available have internal DC-DC conversion, and you'd kind of hope it is regulated as the bus voltage varies wildly as standard in a car (12.8v with engine off and full battery, 13.8-14.4 with it on, higher momentary peaks when you turn off the headlights or AC) - the amp's got to work in all those scenarios.
So at 12.0v average they should just draw more current and still have the same output power, more or less; obviously this will place extra thermal stress on some components, so there may still be issues related to that.

Most aren't regulated sadly.
