hey

LOL, seems to be install season, been talking to someone who is asking about a sound install.

Background music would be played from a PC system but he'd like to be able to have it play different audio in different places in the building, and also have timed announcements and audio clips played.  What would also be super handy would be if it could send out MIDI or DMX commands to trigger a change in lighting programming along with the timed bits.

Had a look at a few programs online designed for hotels and other places, but not blown away by anything yet.  Ideas?

Symetrix linked in with Crestron. Audio clips would have to be a seperete source on a pc with the appropriate timed software, then feed this into the Symetrix and set it as a "priority source" in the design so that it overrides your background music when played.

QSC Q-Sys is another option, as it plays announcements and clips off the system, no separate audio source needed - then just stick your BGM source in... As for lighting control, it'll do RS232 / IP control IIRC, or go along with Lee's suggestion and use something like a Crestron RMC3 to control your lighting and the Q-Sys.
(Both available supplied and/or programmed by me ;))
