Greetings all,   Im into my Roots Reggae/ Dub music and I am going to be Making a 2 Stack Soundsystem, I am looking for the best Bass and the best Punch i can get,  ive heard alot of different views on Scoops and whats best to use,     It seems that Most Reggae SoundSystems Use Super Scoops,  and ive been told Only one "jah shaka" uses Reflex scoops,   Ive also heard that Hog scoops are Really good and provide a much Lower Bass then the Super scoops,
But what i would like to know is What is the Difference between the 3   ,Reflexs,Super and Hogs, and what would be best for a Reggae Soundsystem?  Thankyou for any replies, Peace.

If you want real low notes, go reflex.

If you want louder 1w1m but relatively clean, go with hogs. (2way bass needed because of scoop dip)

If you want "classic reggae" tone, go with scoops. (2way bass needed because of scoop dip)

Just my honest opinion about the sound. Can't decide what's best for you!

My take on scoops is they are almost an instrument, and are critical to the playback of certain genres of music, reggae being the most obvious.

Reflex will be drier and more accurate in terms of straight reproduction of any particular track, whereas horns will give more spl, with the compromise of bandwidth per box and some tonal colouration. Scoops are a bit of both.

Scoops cannot kick ((91Hz) because of their  inherent dip. Some designs suffer less than others, but all suffer some form of cancelation between direct radiating front, and rear horn section, which manifests around 80-100 hz. Dedicated kick be it horn or reflex is a must.

Even though my scoop design has slightly longer horn than most other designs so logically it would mean the dip would be lower than on other scoops, but on my boxes it is around 130Hz or so.

This one was measured in forest with no boundaries around, no filtering, with 2nd and 3rd harmonics.

I just had a session with my friends sound system. I have reflex and he has hogs. There was a clear difference in sound (and size) :D . Hogs give this skull rattling eyeballs shaking vibe and reflex feels more in the lower part of the body.

It was interesting to hear how the sounds were different. Reflex also seemed to fill the small room different compared to hogs.

Both have their own good sides. Im into quality over quantity so I personally liked my sound more LOL

Some people also couldnt take the skull rattling eyeball shaking pressure from the hogs. One girl had a panic attack because of the sound, which is not the point of sound system in my opinion.

magicmyles, best go out to several dances to make up your own mind on the sound/tone you prefer.. we are all different, so are our ears :)
"some like it hot and some like it cold", you get my drift.. theres no such thing as "best", its all down to preferences and budget lol

read the scoop section on here, plenty info hidden between the usual beef/lines
