What is the best way to purchase a preamp for a sound system.

Give thanks.

Listen to as many as you can then decide which you like best.
Find out who built it, contact builder to find out price and build time.
Pay builder and wait..... Time varies depending on builder.
I have a Jo Red pre amp took a few months to build from first contact. Jo is still not building at the moment as far as I know. But jah tubbys, mostec , dubsonic, sage , rdh and ligwa are to name a few. Some builders seem to be harder to contact than others, but all are if you persist.
Another way is to try and pick up a used unit, they pop up every now and then...but do sell quickly if at a good price.
Try a wanted advert on here or some of the preamp groups on Facebook.
