Hi, I need to get some grills made for some subs and I was wondering what the best hole size and pitch of perforated steel is to use.
The material I have found is 6mm hole, 8.5mm pitch which equates to an open area of 45% will this be enough open area? I dont want to mess the tuning of the box up. cheers

You will lose a bit of top end going to 45% open area but it's not drastic. The other consideration is the larger the hole the greater the chance some clown has something in his pocket that he can poke thru the cone.
I use 4mm hole 5mm pitch which gives open area of 60%+. Just re-read the OP. If it's for subs the top end loss won't be a consideration but you still have to consider the punters with pokey implements, particularly as the subs will be on the floor and not easily visible when you're working.
