Been looking to build new bass cabinets to go with an old bins and horns system, it has to be big, loud and drop low. Does anyone have any experience with the EAW BH882's? How do they sound and compare to modern systems?
Thanks in advance!

The search function doesn't seem to be working properly as it has way less results than it should do, thanks for sharing the links

I’ve heard these cabinets (one in each corner) following the Richard Long’s concept many of times in the 1990’s. They will play low for old music that fall within 1970’s – 1980’s realm. However, the Levan Horn won’t be the most ideal bin for modern day music if you are looking for bins to go very low. Even for Dance music produced in the 1990’s they were not the offering a lot of low bass despite the tracks offered low bass.

Keep in mind the Levan Horn was used as an extension to the Waldorf (Scoops) perched on top. Scoops are good to 50 Hertz before taking a nose dive. So crossing the Levan box higher may offer stellar results. However, if your quest is massive amounts of 30 Hz, you are better off with Lab Subs, Terra Horns or possibly Funktion One if you need a large bass horn.

use the advanced search function Wink and change the search options, they are set to only search the posts from last 6 months… change that to "any date", and lo and behold….. 9 pages of results!

Haha these monsters have no hope of getting through a regular door, I was thinking breaking it down into emeralds and a detachable extension so I would actually be able to move it. I have seen plenty of people mention doing this but no evidence of it being successful, has anyone seen any work? and is it true that two emeralds go lower than  a single bertha?

Thanks for the advice!

The rest of the system is 4560's, mids and flares so I wanted something that would fit the look of the rest of the system, the Levan's seem to be the best of that period in terms of filling in below the 4560's and they should be able to meet them in a similar way to which Waldorf's met the Levan's? Would Lab horns or Terra Horns be appropriate? (Function one is out of the budget and not a fan of the sound)

Thanks

If you cross the Levan Horn higher, they will work well with the 4560s. As long as you are not expecting a lot of low bass which is common with modern day music, the Levan Horn should be fine. However, when you consider the size of one Levan Horn with the extension, you could use four Lab Subs or Terra Horns and attain far greater results in terms of SPL and low bass.

Four Lab Subs standing upright side by side would be equivalent to one Levan Horn from a width perspective lying on its side. If it were I, I would use four Terra Horns per column as they will play high enough and low enough with a lot of SPL to get the job done.

Best Regards,
