Just curious.. how much people would consider paying for a well built battery powered PA system with half decent components (not high end, but not bargain basement either, something like Fane Sovereign drivers or thereabouts), something like this:

200w RMS of amps
120db SPL @ 1m
2x12" LF + compression driver HF
Measured frequency response of -3db 49hz-18khz (-10db 39hz-20khz)
10 hours battery at max volume, up to 40/50 hours at lower but still loud levels
30-35kg weight
Rugged wheels/handles suitable for "real world" use (grass/dirt/sand etc)

Just looking for a ballpark really to see if the design I'm working on would be commercially viable or best left as a hobby project!

Cheers :)

Samson makes a 2/3rds decent system...
Amplivox, Fender, Peavey, Alesis, Califone,  Roland, Vocopro and (Pyle) all make busking systems at various price points... This is what the market is pushing

All the systems have limited bass and most use cheap heavy SLA batteries.
To get any bass you will need either massive amounts of power or a lot of speaker/s.

High powered lithium is still expensive and big speakers are not easy to move so the commercial units are usually small and under powered but will have other features such as wireless mics and mp3 capability.

This is one area where DIY can come to the rescue as any "commercial" system that can do 120db @ 50hz for ten hours on battery power is going to cost big $$$.

I see - "the market" apparently wants a box @ around £200 max with every feature under the sun (CD, wireless mics, trouser press, etc)!

Wow. That's a lot of money for something like that. A Boomintor costs about £300 for all materials and that's far better spec'ed.

My cynical head says "the market" is also pushing systems that have SO many components (all of them cheap and crap) to a target audience of people who don't know the first thing about electronics, at a price JUST on the verge of being too cheap to bother trying to fix it or go back to the retailer when one of the important bits fails..

I would love to see a 300w X 4 powered mixer/pod dock with built in crossovers "mini dsp"  that ran off a bunch of 18650 lithium batteries...  Having the ability to scale the amount and size of speakers used would be better than a all in one box for me.

That would indeed be awesome! Would be invaluable as emergency backup in case of generator failure or powercut too.
