I will be honest the hog's throw isnt as far as superscoopers, however up close they really almost hurt.

when listening to 4 1850 supers against 4 1851 supers, when they're both making the same kind of 'volume' (when you just walk past) the 1850s sound like they're working very hard and the sound is kind of harsher than the 51s, which sound more smooth and like they want more. I'm very cautious with our 51s and so haven't found their limits at all yet. The most current I've sent them (but this is in a super which certainly aint ideal) is around 25-30A but I've not done this much. a) because I'm very cautious and b) because we usually run in a very small room and 8 scoops running at a medium level tend to do the job.
However I do think they're quite efficient cos watching the curents on 2 inf 8s, one running 1850 and the other running 1851, when the amps are working a similar amount you tend to get more volume from the 1851s.

The sound difference seems to me that an 1850 sounds a lot less smooth straight out of the box, it has that more grunty evil bass, and the 1851 requires a bit of EQing before you get that - and then it starts to really come into its own.

in my opinion in the right box an 1851 will own an 1850, but it needs a bit of EQing to get the grunt - and that's something I'm only just beginning to get the hang of myself. They will definately drop lower if you give them more room to breath.

I would love to hear them in some different scoops.

Very well said Hamish.

The Hogs are more fussy than "normal" scoops IMO.You can chuck a normal scoop anywhere and it'll bang away merilly at any power...1851 Hogs are very power hungry and don't have that scoop bang without EQ.... but when you get it right they are unmatched in their class IMO.
Are they scoops....not quite ....do they sound like scoops....well with the right eq...are they the mutts nuts...undoubtedly.
I have heard them throw on numerous occasions easily matching your standard scoop.
The difference is normal scoop hard hitting waves of sound...hogs done right seem to pick up all the air in the room and shake it back and forth violently like a tsunami.
All down to the freqs they do best.IMO

Last time I checked we were running 35-80...but it depends where we are and how many are out..
The 1850 is a very good driver in this box with more bang but less musicality.
we borroed Mister QSS's K10 a while back and the results were astonishing...and we were being |V carefull with our new drivers...
Cortcyte will tell you the obscene amount of volts they were recieving as i can't remember!!

EDIT:more bang at lower power, the 1850s sound at there limit when the 1851 is just warming up.....as Bassmish pointed out

yeah I put 190V into them for 20-30 seconds. I have never experienced anything as intense as that from four 18" drivers.

More recently we tickled eight of them with Fuzzy's new FP13000 hitting VPL, again only for a burst since the tops couldn't keep up... will have to do it again properly for 'testing' when there isn't a paying audience expecting music rather than permanent hearing damage!
