Appreciated djk, but maybe not fair to say that all horns will exhibit the same trend as shown by the plot you posted. |

"A block of 4 should jack up the 50Hz quite a bit due to increased mouth area. "
![]() This block of four picks up 2.5dB at 50hz (graph from EAW KF940).
Of course the stack will handle 6dB more power too, so a stack of four with four times as much power can play almost twice as loud (8.5dB).

Rus,
A fairly tight driver will work well in those Z bins.
Aim for a Vas of around 180L and a Qts of around 0.3
A higher QMS > 9 will also help here.
The big question here is.......... should I have put a wink after the line above.

That is a single bin measurement though k.
A block of 4 should jack up the 50Hz quite a bit due to increased mouth area.

Hi Rus,
I haven't heard one of those Fane Z bins for about 15 years, so can't comment on how well they would stand up to more modern designs, but I used to go to loads of events and clubs that used the Fane Z bin and I was always impressed at what came out.
They are quite loud for the size and seem to be free from any major resonace problems. I would say they suit harder types of dance music and live stuff as the transient response isn't bad. They will never flap ya trousers, but could work well above something that did.
Do it, built 8 and start a trend. You really need 4 per stack like with the 1850 horn. I'd say the Z bins play cleaner above 120Hz than an 1850 horn, well with most drivers. The 1850 horn can sound clean but not with a PD1850 or V18-1000.

Do you really want something that is 10dB down at 50hz (with respect to 100hz)?
