Got plans for these but not too good in detail.
Anybody got a pic of the back door off?
Not sure how far back port shelf goes ( to the baffle maybe)?
Thanks

Are you referring to the JBL "4512" horn loaded enclosure that could use either a 12" or 15" speaker? Jbl recycled the number for a later speaker that looks nothing like the horn version.

To me make sense. In that way port and horn are in phase. Am I right? |

I have two Rhineo, two ES18, some lips/bullet boxes and redundent Kappa Pro 12's. Box is nice dimensions for the stack..
@ Bitzo, the more I look, the better I get it..

If I got you right, the port boards go from the front of the cab to the baffle board. Which plans do you have. I got mine from the Michael Schnittger(?) site before it went down. Thank God for the "Wayback Machine", to try to at least have a chance of retrieving info not available with a Google search anymore, providing you still have the link available.

Those are the same plans I built mine off of. GREAT cabs, I thought, and so did the crowd.

Hello all. I know its been a while but id like to restart this thread if I may. Looking around on the net i have seen several images of the 4512 (3D models, photos, etc), some with a port extending to the baffle and other where the port base follows the line of the horn ( http://www.vandesteenoven.nl//s/4512.jpg - http://www.vandesteenoven.nl/html/images/4512.jpg ). This is, I think, probably due to the rather sketchy plan available on
hornplans.free.fr/4512.html .
Now I reckon we can make the educated assumption that it is the designers intention that the ports stretch back to the baffle, but this is not the only question left unanswered by this plan.
I'm looking to build a couple of these and the thing I want to know is, should the portions of the speaker not directly in the horn throat be blocked off by the baffle? In other words, should the baffle cut-out be a full circle or cropped to match the horn throat? Any ideas??? |

When I built mine I built them with the baffle hole round. Somewhere I have photos of the 4512's with the drivers removed and the holes were round, same as the altec a7's. When using 15's in the 4512 I added an extra gasket.
